The process before

Lost Paws runs a live registry. Owners register their pets and microchips, ownership moves when a pet changes home, and partner databases look chips up.

The system was inherited from an earlier team. It worked, but problems were hard to trace, and every change carried risk for real pet owners.

What we built

We took over the running system and worked on it in small, safe releases.

  • Account and pet registration, with user roles
  • Ownership transfer when a pet moves to a new keeper
  • Security for QR tags
  • The lookup API that partner registries use to check a microchip
  • SMS and email messages, including reminders
  • API migration to a new backend
  • Hosting, deployment and day-to-day maintenance

Result

The registry has been maintained and extended without a break since 2025. Problems are diagnosed from logs and data, explained in plain words, and fixed with the client's approval.
